Maximising Your Time at University, Chapter 5: Create and update LinkedIn
Part of Maximising your time at University · Chapter 5 of 7 · 15 min
About this chapter
LinkedIn is the front end for most recruitment, and your profile is often viewed before your CV. I explain how recruiters use it and what to put in yours as a student.
Key points
- Internal recruiters in many companies use LinkedIn almost exclusively to search for and approach candidates.
- Use a proper headshot, not a holiday photo; a photography society might help.
- Write four or five paragraphs in the About section, as if answering "tell me about you".
- Fill in experience, voluntary work, projects and awards, because it helps you appear in searches.
- Grow your connections beyond course mates and decide how often you'll post updates.
- Ask for recommendations from managers and colleagues, usually in exchange for one of yours.
